We met while attending medical school at Boston University School of Medicine. After practicing clinical medicine for a year, we realized that we weren't really “seeing” patients. Whenever someone came to the emergency room with chest pain, we would spend anywhere from 5 to 40 minutes trying to piece together their medical history: prior instances of chest pain, workups, medications, specialists, etc. This pattern was consistent across clinics, inpatient hospital units, and surgical settings. After finishing our shifts, we would spend several more hours each day writing notes. This was frustrating and not in keeping with our values when entering medical school.

We had some knowledge of coding and computer science so we started thinking about ways to change the paradigm of medicine so that we could spend less time in front of the computer and more time with patients. This required a deep understanding of healthcare infrastructure. In an industry that sometimes feels like it is primarily focused on revenue generation and profit margins, it's challenging to create changes that are financially viable, improve patient care, reduce physician burnout, and are technically sound. Numerous companies have entered this industry, but we had something special: we were all clinicians—we were both the end users and the designers of the tool.

So, we got to work. Like any good clinician, we spent the first few years on research and evidence gathering. We published manuscripts on medical documentation, explored the latest technological advances in AI and developed our own prototype on information management. Several years of refinement later, we are ready to launch our flagship product—Stream.
